Q. How much time should I be spending in clinical areas during the course?

A. During Stage 1, Classroom based days account for 3 days per week. This will include contact with patients in clinical areas. In addition you will also be expected to assess patients, using the clinical skills taught (minimum ½ day per week). On most classroom days there is also homework to do.

Q. Will I be overwhelmed with new information?

A. There is a lot of ground covered during the course, which we have to fit into the 3 days each week. However we are keen to make the experience relevant to your ongoing clinical practice.

Q. What if I am sick?

A. Attendance is compulsory. If you miss more than 3 days in Stage 1, you will be asked to meet with the course leader to discuss the impact of this. If you miss a complete week you will not achieve recognition of practice in that area. Further details can be found under the regulations link.

Q. How much does the course cost?

A. The total cost of the course is £1500.00 This includes CRB clearance by Northumbria NHS Foundation Trust, and your portfolio for the course.

Q. What happens if I fail any of the assessment components?

A. Under Sunderland University regulations, there would be an opportunity to resit the failed component (s).

Q. Are there specific entry requirements for the course?

A. There is no specified entry requirement for NACAN. However the complexity & structure is appropriate for nurses/allied professionals who have undertaken or are planning degree level study. All learners must be experienced post registration nurses or allied professionals who have worked with adults for at least 2 years
